MINUTES OF MEETING

ALBANY-SARATOGA BASE, USSVI

 

Meeting Date: Feb. 21, 2007

Location: American Legion Post #70,  Saratoga, NY 

* The meeting was called to order by CDR Al Singleman at 7:00 PM.

* Muster sheet passed around for all to sign.

* Commander Singleman announced that the Submarine Memorial & Museum now has   a charter.

* The crew saluted the colors, recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

* Chaplains prayer & Tolling of the Boats

* Introduction of all members & boats they served on.

* WWII Sub Vets were asked to stand-Ray Koch present & acknowledged by all.  

* Quorum present-

* Minutes from the previous meeting on Jan. 17, 2007 were emailed & accepted.

* Treasurers report given by Jim Irwin, since Fred Carlson wasn’t at meeting. Report       was accepted by Charlie Cleveland & 2nd by Jim Williams.

 OLD BUSINESS:

1. John Cook gave a Float Report. Expenses so far $362.04. Lowe’s donated much lumber for building the float plus gave us a 10% discount for any additional items purchased. Discussion about purchasing a flat trailer or higher boat trailer for the float followed. 

2. CDR Singleman discussed the Memorial / Museum Charter. We should be in operation by June.

3. Discussion on selling Trustco stock tabled until next meeting. 

4. John Cook started a discussion on jackets for parades & other Sub vet functions. Several guys are checking with different venders for styles & cost. 

5. Jim Irwin had a little more information on a summer outing/picnic at Lanfear’s Grove in Latham. He will check on cost & weekends available this summer.

6. John Cook gave thanks to all that supported him during his last term as Commander.

BREAK- CDR Singleman showed a Submarine Victory at Sea movie.

50/50  Raffle tickets sold by Diane Singleman. Orange shirts left over from the Convention are for sale-  Golf shirts $10.00 each, T-Shirts $5.00 each.              

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Gus Negus led a discussion on acquiring a Klaxton. A motion was passed to pay a $200.00 donation to the U.S.S. Slater for a Klaxton. Gus Negus will handle the acquisition of the Klaxton & he will mount & wire it up for our use.

2. April 11th, National Submarine Day - We will be holding a ceremony in Ballston Spa to commemorate all the sailors & submarines that have been lost. We will have a tolling of the bells for all boats. This is on a Wed.; hopefully those who work  can get the day off to attend the ceremony. Time   11:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

All members recited the Creed.

A motion was made & seconded to adjourn the meeting.  Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM

Next meeting will be on Wed., Mar. 21, 2007. at 7:00 PM at the American

Legion Post #70, West Road, Saratoga, NY.
