Albany-Saratoga Base

Minutes from May 2007
Prior to the actual opening of the meeting Cdr. Singleman had a few comments regarding the Albany/Saratoga Base Memorial in that he had meet with Saratoga Springs Mayor Valerie Keehn and had given her material regarding the Memorial. Information was also given to Congresswomen Kristen Gillibrand’s personnel and that also received with enthusiasm. There is a possibility of obtaining the sail from the USS Hyman Rickover for the Memorial.
The meeting was called to order at 1904 and all recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Chaplin Irwin gave the invocation. The Tolling of Boats was announced and each member stood and introduced themselves and WWII Veteran (Ray Koch) was introduced and recognized.
Cdr. Singleman and ED5 Commander Jim Irwin spoke of a possible day trip to New London which would include a demo of firefighting and damage control and a luncheon. More information to follow.
The Base received a letter from the USS Slater (DE-766) acknowledging and thanking the base for the $200.00 donation.
At this point in the meeting Associate Member Ray Misiewicz commenced his presentation “The Loss of the U.S.S. Scorpion”. Ray had spent 35 years at KAPL and has made numerous presentations in the capital district and we look forward to him returning with another for a future base meeting.
Thank you Ray.
