May 2008 Minutes

Meeting called to order at 2005 by Cdr. Singleman.  Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  Invocation by Chaplain Irwin and the Tolling of the Boats for the month of May.  All members introduced themselves and World War II Veteran Ray Koch was recognized.  Please note that the meeting commenced at a later time due to the Saratoga Memorial Day Parade in which the Base participated.

An abbreviated Treasures report was given by the Base Treasurer Fred Carlson.

Lansenburg’s Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday (the 26th); participants should muster at 1030 on the eastside of the 5th Ave and 123rd Street .

The Base picnic will be August 2nd at Lanthier’s Grove.   Attendee’s must sign up by the July meeting (July 16th).  Base members may deduct $5.00 off the cost – guests will be the regular price.

The D2-D5 meeting will be held at the Best Western in Clifton Park on Saturday October 25th.  Eighteen Bases have been invited with six bases from District 5.  The meeting will be held all day and Commander Irwin is looking for 5/6 people to help out on Friday night and during the day on Saturday.

The Albany/Saratoga Base meeting in June will be a combined Base and Memorial Foundation meeting.

October of 2007 we (area residents) were able to attend the Army/Navy Sprint football game at Saratoga High School football field which was chaired by Coach Bill Parcels (NFL type).  This year on October 4th Jimmy Carter (Presidential and USN fame) will be chairing the Navy/Cornell game which will also be held at the Saratoga field just down (south) of our meeting location on West Ave.   More info to follow……

Also in October we will receive a FORMAL invitation to the Navy Ball so take your dress blues to the dry cleaners, get out all your miniature medals, your Donald Duck hat (no flat hats allowed they were taken off the approved list in 1956 for the 1st and 3rd Naval Districts) and get yourself ready to fit into your blues…………………More to follow………………………………………..

The Chief Corpsman (HMCM) has reported that COB Tom Glenn had a hip replacement and was up dancing.   Also Will Asher is all clean and doing

well and I am personally looking forward to seeing Will and Lois at the

opening at the new commissary in Saratoga .

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MONTHLY MINUTES ARE BEING ISSUED (SENT) LATER THAN NORMAL.  THE REASONING BEHIND THIS IS THAT MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE THE MINUTES CLOSER TO OUR UP COMING MEETINGS AND HOPEFULLY OUR ATTENDANCE WILL INCREASE.

Our next meeting (combined) will be held on:

                     June18th at 1900
